As we countdown to All Points East 2019, we’re collaborating with some of the biggest names in the music industry to bring you their top picks from this year’s line-up.
Gemma Cairney compiles her favourite tracks from this year's line-up at All Points East. Gemma Cairney is a BBC Broadcaster. She presents The Leisure Society for BBC 6Music, which returns in April on the station and is available for catch up online and on podcasts. https://apefe.st/gcleisure
Toro Y Moi > Ordinary Pleasure
I was covering the early breakfast show on BBC 6Music recently and we played this, it struck me as soon as I hit play how much I liked it for it’s bounce and funkiness.
Christine & The Queens > La Marcheuse
I adore everything about Chris’ sound and performances. The whole package just feels so thoughtful and poignant and unique in comparison to so many artists doing well on the modern landscape.
Kamasi Washington > Desire
Always yes to Kamasi, always, what a genie. That is all.
John Grant > Love Is Magic
Is there anyone that doesn’t want to groove to the music of John Grant? I love this song because its lyrics are like a soundtrack to society’s day to day. But it turns mundanity into a kind of disco, by adding the music.
Lil Simz > Offence
I’ve been following Simz’ career for years now and she just gets more exciting. I love this track, because it packs punch but not with subtle and knowing power.
Ibibio Sound Machine > Tell Me
I love this because it makes me think of the crafted pop of The Pointer Sisters of crash banging walloping pop stuff from Whitney Houston, that sounded fun.
Little Dragon > After The Rain
Little Dragon, have been at the top of their game, for so long now. This tune from 2009 is just so cool.
Conan Moccasin > Momo’s
I love how Connan almost sounds like a completely different artist overtime he drops a new record. I love this new album, it’s kind of sultry and this track from it is no exception to that!
Run The Jewels > Run The Jewels
A good introduction to just how much Run The Jewels make ya STOMP.
First Aid Kit > My Silver Lining
I like the optimism of this track and it does make you wanna time travel to 70’s America, put on some flares and go hitch hiking.
